Vast swathes of Peruvian rainforest are being cleared for plantations
How can the environment minister of Peru preside over the current UN Climate Summit in Lima while actively promoting rampant deforestation in his own country? Help us call him out on his hypocrisy! Please sign the petition and share it far and wide!
The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP20) is taking place in Lima, Peru. We want to remind the host of the conference, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, of his responsibility for the rampant destruction of his country’s rainforest. Under his rule, thousands of hectares of the Peruvian Amazon are being cleared for palm oil and cocoa plantations.
The Amazon rainforests are crucial for climate protection – deforestation currently accounts for 60 percent of Latin America’s carbon emissions. Tell the Peruvian government to put an end to its hypocrisy and stop the chainsaws for the benefit of nature, humanity and the climate.
Please sign our petition to the Peruvian government – we will be delivering it during the climate conference.
