On November 10, Pope Francis received all the participants of the high prolife conference “Prospects for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons and for Integral Disarmament”  in the Clementine Hall of the Vatican. In his speech, Pope Francis has openly denounced the continuing possession of nuclear weapons by various world governments, in what appears to be a departure from the church’s acceptance of the global system of nuclear deterrence and mutually assured destruction.
